Mastawan

Mastawan (she/her) was born and raised in a small village called Lape in Sumbawa District, West Nusa Tenggara Province. She is a textile enthusiast. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering from the Textile Polytechnic in Bandung, West Java (Supported by the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia). She has conducted mentoring, training in sustainable fashion such as ecoprint, natural dyes, and packaging, as well as traditional weaving techniques. She provided technical guidance for the improvement of Sumbawa traditional weaving for several groups of traditional weavers. To build her skills in helping traditional women weavers in Sumbawa, currently she is pursuing Master of Sustainable Development in Flinders University, South Australia, supported by the Australia Awards Scholarship. She is exploring ways to revitalise the traditional weaving in Sumbawa so as to preserve the culture and empower the women.
