Muhammad Firdaus

Since 2014, Firdaus has been working as a marine aquaculture researcher at the Research and Development Division for Marine Bio-Industry, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), which since 2022 has been reorganized as the Research Center for Marine and Land Bioindustry, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)

He completed his undergraduate studies in Aquaculture Technology and Management at IPB University in 2012 and graduated from the Master’s Program in Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management at Wageningen University and Research (WUR) in 2022. Both with cum laude distinction.

He closely collaborated with aquaculture stakeholders in Indonesia, assisting them in developing improved aquaculture practices for various species, conserving marine resources, and establishing new livelihood opportunities for the coastal communities. In 2017, he was appointed project leader for Sustainable Sandfish (Holothuria scabra) Aquaculture in Lombok, Indonesia. This project entails research, technology transfer, and the implementation of sea cucumber aquaculture technologies, including seed production, nursery management, grow-out processes, and resource processing. Presently, he is actively involved in some research and non-research projects, including a role as PI for developing sustainable integrated-multitrophic aquaculture practices in Lombok as part of a joint research project, Lombok Ecological Marine Ranching, between BRIN and IOCAS.
